Nothing like an onion

This morning our first meeting was with a satirical news publication called "The Onion". I absoluely enjoyed this meeting for a number of different reasons. First of all, the atomosphere of their office was fun, hip and fresh. I loved the laid back "don't take yourself too seriously" attitude. Through out our meeting varies staff members wandered in and out contributing to our conversation and helping answer our questions. Clearly the staff was not bonded as co-workers but also as friends. The overall mojo was wonderfully refreshing.

I was also happy to hear about the way in which the onion goes about their work. The Onion's job is to parody the dumb trends going on in mainstream media or just culture in general, but the Onion is respectful and selective in their process of choosing their headlines. Their goal is not a structural revolution of society, but instead to draw attention to larger issues through a fresh breath of humor.

Another little itsy bitsy thing I found neat about the way the "The Onion" works is that they do the "normal process" backward. They start with headlines and then think of stories and their end product is brilliant.

Today I just felt like a laugh with the "The Onion" was exactly what I needed. Their quirky professionalism and flawless humor was fantastic.
